2014 Pilgrim Class Confrreral
I was pleased and honored to accompany Jerry Berkey to Mooseheart to be conferred as a fellow Pilgrim in a solemn and impressive ceremony on May 31, 2014 in the House of God. The Pilgrim Degree of Merit is the highest and most coveted degree of the Loyal Order of Moose. Only those who have compiled an outstanding record of meritorious service over a period of many years receive this distinction.
In honor of Jerry’s elevation to Pilgrim there will be a banquet held in his honor on September 20th at the lodge. Details will be in the next newsletter. Congratulations, Jerry!

Community Service: Relay For Life
Summer is here friends! The relay is July 11-12 from 10 am until 10 am, which is right around the corner! There is a signup sheet for walkers on the bulletin board in the Social Quarters. Please sign up and take an envelope so that you can get your family and friends to sponsor you. There is a lot planned this year with quite a few fun activities. Please try to stop up to the park sometime during the 24 hours we are there. The relay teams and committee members put so much of their time and hard work into this event every year. It’s sad when there is little community involvement. Please mark your calendars and come join us. We have an easy up set up to keep you out of the sun and after dark we build a fire and make Smore’s and hot dogs. All are welcome! We’d love to see you!!

Luminaria’s are on sale so pick up those at the lodge. You can decorate them in honor of or in memory of your loved one who has battled cancer. Please fill out the form and be sure to mark it as honor or memory so that it is recognized at the relay event. We ask for a $5 donation with each luminaria.
The annual Christmas in July basket party is July 20th at the Richland Fire hall. Tickets are available at the Moose. We are in need of baskets so if anyone would like to make a basket we would really appreciate it.
Thank you so much for your continued support of our relay team.

God Bless,
Susan Shaffer, Co-captain,
Windber Moose Relay for Life team

Windber MooseRiders
It is with great sadness and regret that I am announcing that the Moose Riders social activity group has opted to disband. We’ve explored options and had many discussions with our Lodge officers regarding challenges presented by new regulations from international and state regarding Riders activity groups. Unfortunately, we are unable to continue.
It’s been a great “ride” and we’d like to thank you all for your support over the last 7 years! In total, we’ve donated over $16,000.00 to local community endeavors from the Riders; as well as $7500.00 in Tom Beard Memorial Scholarship monies to 5 local graduating seniors. For that we are extremely proud and grateful to everyone.
With the lodge board and administrator, we’ll be transitioning the remaining funds in the Riders account to the Tom Beard Memorial Scholarship and have formed a committee to manage the scholarship and continue Tom’s spirit of community service. This committee will meet quarterly, maintaining the same level of record keeping and will continue to hold fundraisers to replenish the scholarship funds. Tom is missed by so many and this is a great way to keep his memory and work alive in all of us. Your support of the Tom Beard Memorial Scholarship is greatly appreciated.

Moose Legion
The Legion is the first of the higher degrees, followed by the fellowship and pilgrim degrees. Our lodge's legion meeting is held on the third Tuesday of each month at 8PM in the upstairs meeting room. All legionnaires are welcome to attend and your input would be greatly appreciated.

Sponsor Recognition

Congratulations to Brothers Matt Andrascik, Matthew Kolson, Robert Geisel and Dennis Manges for sponsoring members in the past two months. Each got a drink a day for being the “Bull Moose” until the next member sponsored another new member. Increasing our numbers is one of your obligations of membership. These brothers added four new members to the roll. Keep up the good work!
